Paul Tom has
been practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 1997, and has been running
his own school now since 2001. In addition to his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
teaching experience, he is also a certified Tactical Arrest and Control
Instructor for law enforcement officers.
Paul first
received his blue belt from the Rickson Gracie Association on January 25th,
1997. He started instructing children's courses in 1998, and began
teaching beginner's classes for all ages shortly thereafter. He later
received his purple belt on January 2nd, 2001 and it was at
this time that Paul officially started teaching at his own school in
Orem. On November 18th, 2002 - less than two years later -
he was awarded his brown belt.
Paul soon met
with Master Flavio Behring and became a Behring Jiu-Jitsu associate in
the Summer of 2003. Finally, in May 2008, Paul was initiated as a black
belt Behring Jiu-Jitsu professor under Flavio Behring and the World
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. He currently continues to teach
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Orem, and is the second highest ranked Behring
Jiu-Jitsu professor in the USA behind black belt, Rob Handley.
As a coach, Paul has led many combatants to success in a wide variety
of local, national, and international martial arts competitions.
Members of his team continue to compete in a wide variety of local and
national competitions, including Utah's Ultimate Combat Experience and
Grapplers Quest.
